Created in 1999 by artistic director Tristan Sharps, dreamthinkspeak interweaves live performance with film and installations to create extraordinary journeys that are ambitious in scale, visually layered and popular with audiences wherever they are performed.
Previous Works
Previous works have taken place in a variety of physical and architectural contexts from Register House in Edinburgh, to the Majestic Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, to the magnificent Old Treasury building in Perth, Australia. Their work has been seen to great acclaim all over the world, most recently in Australia, Malaysia, Romania, Russia, Slovenia and Syria. Over the years, the company has evolved into an ensemble of artists and craftspeople, including carpenters, metal workers, architectural and 3D modellers, graphic designers, scenic artists, performers and technicians with a wide range of practical and artistic skills.
In 2000 they created Who Goes There?, a deconstructed site-responsive production of Hamlet, which transformed a range of sites into world of Elsinore including BAC in 2002. The following year, Don't Look Back premiered at Brighton Festival and has since been recreated for a total of twelve sites in the UK and beyond. Underground, inspired by Dostoyevsky’s Crime and Punishment, was commissioned by Brighton Festival and The Barbican for the Bite:05 Young Genius season and played to sell-out audiences at the Theatre Royal Brighton and a vast underground former abattoir in Clerkenwell. One Step Forward, One Step Back, inspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy, was commissioned by Liverpool Capital of Culture for Gilbert Scott’s Anglican Cathedral, also to great acclaim. In 2009 Absent, a walk-in installation inspired by the rise and fall of socialite Duchess of Argyll, was presented at the Royal Opera House in London as part of Ignite 09. Most recently, Before I Sleep, commissioned by Brighton Festival, played to packed audiences over a ten week extended run at a vast disused department store in central Brighton.
