The Almeida Theatre is a 325 seat venue originally built in 1837 as the Scientific and Literary Institute of Islington.
The acting area is as large as the auditorium is small, resulting in a unique relationship between performers and audience, that unites the epic and the intimate and is thus the perfect arena in which to produce Shakespeare.
Under the leadership of Artistic Director Michael Attenborough, the heart of the Almeida’s vision is the staging of British and international drama to the highest possible standards in productions that reveal the plays in a new light, including foreign classics in newly commissioned versions and new plays.
The annual Almeida Festival hosts visiting theatre companies and Almeida Projects is a learning programme for young people, providing key creative links with a younger audience. The Almeida is known worldwide for producing an ambitious and diverse range of work with some of theatre’s finest artists.
